Super Quick And Easy Bison Stroganoff

bison-stroganoff If you like Beef Stroganoff, you're going to LOVE our Bison Stroganoff.  This recipe is as quick and easy as ramen noodles but has the feeling (and flavor) of fine dining.  If you're looking for what you can make tonight that your whole family will love, this is it.  Read on to find out how quick and easy it truly is.   Ingredients: 1 lb. Bison      You can use just about any cut.  Here at Intermountain Bison we like it made with strip steak, but you could use sirloin  -- or even ground bison -- and have a great result.  If you use steak, cut it into strips about 1/2" thick and 1.5" long. 1 Can Mushroom Soup      This is just your favorite mushroom soup.  We usually use Campbell's, but you can use whatever.  If you use golden mushroom soup it changes the flavor dramatically (we like both) so try it first with regular cream of mushroom soup. 1 Onion      Use whatever onions you have on hand (not red onions) and you'll be fine.   Chop them coarsely. Garlic      This is used to taste, but garlic will quickly overpower the delicate flavors of stroganoff, so proceed with caution.  You'll want to use the garlic chopped finely. 8 oz. Mushrooms      Any kind of fresh mushrooms will do.  But if you want to really match the mushroom flavor to the bison, use portabello mushrooms.  They have an earthiness that really compliments the bison.  You're going to want to slice the mushrooms into bite sized pieces. 3/4 cup Milk      Any milk will do.  We prefer full-fat milk, but if skim is what you have, use that. 1 cup Sour Cream      Again, any brand.  Daisy is probably the "tartest" but use what you have. 2 tbs. Butter      Whatever you have will do.  It can be salted or unsalted.  It won't matter here. 1 pkg. Pasta      Whatever pasta you have will be fine.  Egg noodles are traditional.  But some people like other types of noodles or even rice.  If you're going to use rice, use regular white rice.  This is not the time for wild rice or something exotic.  It will go over brown rice, but it changes the flavor dramatically.  If all you have is brown rice, try golden mushroom soup instead of regular.   Cooking Instructions You can start the pasta or rice in the appropriate cooker.  The stroganoff mixture will be done in about 12 - 14 minutes, so you can plan accordingly. Start the sauce by browning the onions in the butter.  When the onions are translucent, add the mushrooms.  The mushrooms will cook very quickly, so be ready to add the meat and the garlic.  You're not going to cook the meat here.  All you want to do it brown it.  About 30 seconds each side will do.  Then add the mushroom soup and the milk.  You'll simmer that for about 10 minutes.  Then turn off the heat and mix in the sour cream. If you're using ground bison in place of sliced steak, the cooking instructions are similar.  Just lightly brown the ground bison.  You are going to simmer it for 10 minutes so that's where it will cook.  Don't cook the ground bison to a well done state, then simmer it.  It will be overdone and dry.  Nobody likes dry meat. If you let the sauce sit for 5 minutes while you set the table the flavors will meld together and you'll have a dish you won't believe.  Stroganoff goes will with sweet corn, peas, pea pods, or even broccoli and cauliflower.  Fresh baked rolls are always a hit with anything, so you can consider that as well.  Let us know what you do differently with your stroganoff in the comments section below.  We'd love to hear how you do it.
